RULES FOR HANDICAP TOURNAMENTS

American Scoring.

You win a point when you win a rally.

You lose the service when you lose a rally.

The game is won by the first player to reach 15 points.

If the score is 14 all, the game is won by the winner of the next rally.

Match

A match is the best of 3 games, except for the semi-finals and final which are the best of 5 games.

Starting Scores

The starting scores of each game are based on the handicaps.

  1. Adjust the starting scores so the weaker player has 0.
  2. e.g. - 22, - 8 becomes - 14, 0

  3. Divide the difference by 5. If this is not an integer, round down to the nearest integer.
  4. For example 14/5= 2.8 so the answer is 2.

  5. The weaker player starts on plus this integer. Thus a - 22, - 8 game starts at - 14, +2.

Other examples are

A - 40, - 5 game starts at - 35, +7

A - 16, - 12 game starts at - 4, 0

A - 9, - 4 game starts at - 5, +1

These rules give the Club standard players a better chance against the team players.

The player with the * is responsible for arranging the match and should contact the opponent as soon as possible. If the result is not entered by the play-by date the player without the * will go through to the next round.
